Job Description

 

A manufacturer of chilled snacks and ready meals is looking to add several new faces to their development team, each to work on one major retailer account.

 

This is a key role in the pipeline of new ideas to production and would require the job holder to:

 

 

 - To ensure that there is effective communication/liaison with external customers across function to ensure smooth transition from concept to launch meeting all customer expectations.

 

 

- To ensure all necessary technical data, photographic and process standards from trial products is achieved. 

 

 

 

- To co-ordinate the continuous improvement of new products / processes pre & post launch.

 

 - To ensure that products / processes are introduced in accordance with all technical food safety, legality or quality requirements and meet the anticipated margin requirements for the business.

 

 

- To work with the Process Development Manager for the completion of weekly tasks and attendance of daily operations meetings

 

 

 - To set up of systems for the introduction of new products into the factory

 

 

 - To introduce new products or implement changes to existing products into the business using trial data.

 

 

 - Working in conjunction with the NPD Account Manager & Chef to prepare for pre productions and the launch of new products

 

 

 - To work closely with the NPD Account Managers and the engineering and operation departments on current and new equipment used and equipment suppliers.

 

 

 - To work closely with the NPD Account Managers and the purchasing department on raw materials new and current for cost saving projects and product / process quality improvement requirements and supplier development

 

 

 - To deputise for the NPD Account Managers

 

 

 MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

 To ensure that products are screened at a concept level at the handover meeting to assess whether products / processes can be effectively implemented into the business both from a technical and production viewpoint.

 

 

To ensure end products match the customer requirements, co-coordinating and attending customer panels.

 

 

To ensure that all technical data is in place to enable products to be launched / processes to be implemented satisfactorily to the required timescale, food safety, legality and quality requirements.

 

 

To co-ordinate the customers request of samples through trials and the operations and NPD departments.

 

 

To ensure the smooth preparation and completion of pre-productions

 

 

 To ensure the smooth preparation and completion of the launch day(s)

 

 

 To be an integral member of the technical team through working closely and supporting the other technical functions – including QA teams and taking and active role both within the factory and in meetings from a general technical viewpoint.

 

 

 To advise and assist in dealing with general technical queries both internally and externally.

 

 

 To ensure that there is effective external communication with external customers / suppliers to ensure the smooth running of the critical path.

 

 

 Complete the initial set up of customer/internal specifications.

 

 

 Ensuring that all materials are on site (new and standard ingredients and packaging) and are ready for the trial to take place. Making sure they are correct and meet food safety specifications before use.

 

 

 Liaise with planning and / or operation team managers to minimise disruption on the day of trials whilst at the same time achieving maximum information about the proposed product.

 

 

To ensure that the trials are delivered as per the trial plan. Ensuring all aspects of the product are acceptable and can be manufactured cost effectively.

 

 

 To organise microbiological samples from trials and track the expected date of the final report. To analyse the microbiological data and propose a final product total life.

 

 

 To organise nutritional samples from trials and track the expected date of the final report. To set up a tracker and analyse the nutritional data for the final product, theoretical and actual samples.

 

 

 To organise organoleptic samples from trials and complete taste panels to assess organoleptic quality over life. To analyse the organoleptic data and propose a final product total life.

 

 

 To organise reheat validation samples from trials and propose a set of reheat instructions and complete reheat validation to confirm instructions.

 

 

 Ensure all necessary photographic standards are gathered from production trials and department manuals are completed as required containing all data and process instructions for the operations teams.

 

 

  To gather the necessary technical or production information from the trial work - for example yield data, cooking and cooling times, mix requirements. Evaluation has to cover every aspect of the product from ingredients / packaging – intrinsic and extrinsic / travel testing / shelf life – processed ingredient intermediate life and total life.  Ensuring that any learning’s are taken into the next production trial.

 

 

 Ensure all microbiological, nutritional and organoleptic information and results are gathered through the trial and available prior to pre production and launch as per customer best practice.

 

 

 To be able to understand and complete the initial set up of customer specifications

 

 

 KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

 

 

 Ideally HNC or above in Food Science or related discipline with 2 years + experience of working within the food industry (preferably within chilled food sector).  Candidates with a food science/technology degree or similar plus placement experience will be considered also.

 

 

Hours are 9-5 Monday to Friday.

 

 

 Indicative Salary Range: £21000 - 24000
